I on “Sam”

Friday, Adam David told me that it was the opening of Sam Seen’s exhibit in The WhiteBox Gallery [Tel: 4373839] in Cubao X. Sam’s exhibit was entitled Inverted.

Just before Friday midnight, I entered the gallery with Adam and Adam talked to Sam about which painting he liked. (I think it was “Pure Morning” on white, green and blue.) While they were talking, I studied the paintings: Acrylic on canvas, white, gradations of blue and green, black, red.

There were three in dominantly red, black and some white. I would linger at one, gaze at two, swing to three, and return to one… two… three.

I pointed to one, “Sam, I like this one.”

Sam came over to my side and quietly smiled, “Ah, that’s the loneliest piece here. You’re the only one tonight who likes it.”

I looked at the title.

The title was “This Love”.

The second red one beneath it was titled “Through With You”.

And the third red one was titled “Moving on”.

If you piece the three together, you will see a broken heart.

I did not have 45 000 pesos to buy three acrylic pieces to piece together a broken heart.
